Our Town Rant before I forget about it.

Overall, I think I liked Our Town. Here’s why:

So future me, if you don’t remember Our Town may possibly be the most routine and boring play with no stage props, depiction of daily life, and bland characters. But that is what makes it so good.

It portrays real life, the boring parts of life, the things you leave out of books and descriptions. It talks about the milkman coming to your doorstep, the history of the town, the weather and all the things that are uninteresting. Mainly this is all in the first act.

The second act is about love and marriage. It portrays the strange way how Emily and George fell in love, the awkward conversations with your father in law on the wedding morning, and the anxiety and regret of getting marriage. This is universal isn’t? The butterflies, the cold feet, the father to son-in-law talk.

The third act it that of death. The dead are all knowing now and understand life whilst the humans go on ignorant to what life holds and should be cherished. What may that be you ask? The little things folks. The small overlooked details that are so exhilarating when someone actually notices and just makes life more beautiful. The sunshine, the flowers, the Sunday post, haircuts, the color of your nails, the grade you got on a test, hugs, any and every daily wonder that life has to offer that really should be appreciated. That message really hit home with me and I completely agree. Life is too wonderful not to be cherished and remembered and documented. Right now, I’m celebrating a victory that I successfully burned a CD and listening to my work as I type this and fight a cold.

Life is the best invention yet. Treasure it.
